Dr. Cristina Chiriboga appointed Cuyamaca College interim president

CAJON – Cristina Chiriboga, Ed.D., vice president of instruction at Cuyamaca
College for more than 12 years, will become interim president July 1,
Chancellor Omero Suarez announced Thursday.
Chiriboga
fills the post vacated by Geraldine M. Perri, Ph.D., who begins a new job as
superintendent/president of Citrus College in Glendora, Calif.
“Cristina
Chiriboga has been an outstanding administrator at Cuyamaca College,
participating in major initiatives and playing a key leadership role in moving
the college forward,” Suarez said. ”Cuyamaca’s enrollment has grown to almost
9,000 students and exciting new programs and state-of-the-art facilities are
now in place. Dr. Chiriboga’s commitment, experience and enthusiasm will be
invaluable to the continued success of the institution and its students.”
As vice president of instruction, Chiriboga has been the
chief academic administrator of the college’s 19 instructional departments. Her
primary duties have included curriculum oversight; coordination of the academic
master plan; tenure review; budget development; program development; oversight
and approval of college class schedule, and more.
She played a critical role in a two-year accreditation
process which culminated with the college receiving superlative marks from evaluators,
as well as the highest level of approval by the Accrediting Commission for
Community and Junior Colleges.
Chiriboga has a doctorate in education in leadership
studies from the University of San Diego; a master’s degree in history from the
University of California, San Diego; and a bachelor’s in history from San
Diego State University.
She began her community college career in 1975 as an
associate professor of history at Southwestern College, where she transitioned into
college administration in 1986 as an assistant dean of special projects. She
left Southwestern College as the dean of language arts in 1995 to accept the
post of vice president of instruction at Cuyamaca College.
A recognized community college leader, Chiriboga has
served on task forces created by the state chancellor’s office, including those
addressing community college leadership development and basic skills. She
currently serves on the board of the Association of California Community
College Administrators, or ACCCA, and is also statewide coordinator of the
group’s management training program. She is also a member of the California
Community Colleges Chief Instructional Officers organization.
In 2004, Chiriboga received ACCCA’s Mertes Award for
Excellence in Community College Research for her dissertation, “An Evaluation
Study of a Community College Administrative Leadership Development Program.”
Locally, she has been a presenter for the East County
Leadership Program and San Diego State University’s doctoral and certificate
programs in education.
Chiriboga and her husband , Tom Hahn, live in Mission
Hills.
Cuyamaca College is at 900 Rancho San Diego Parkway in
