New administrators join Grossmont, EL CAJON – – With the start of the fall 2006 semester, a number of new administrators have been welcomed at the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District. “We continue to draw top-notch administrators, faculty and staff to provide affordable, quality instruction and services in a higher-education system that is accessible to all,” said Chancellor Omero Suarez. “We are fortunate to have a wellspring of talented, highly qualified employees serving the public with great dedication and forward-thinking ideas.” Grossmont College Dr. Kendra Jeffcoat has been appointed interim associate dean of students. She was most recently vice president of academic services at Imperial Valley College in Imperial Valley, Calif. She earned both a bachelor of arts and master of arts in speech communication from UCLA, a master of arts in psychology from Connecticut College, and a doctoral degree in industrial/organizational psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, part of Alliant International University. John al-Amin is the new vice president of administrative services. He worked previously as the chief business and administrative services officer at Laney College in Oakland, Calif. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from the University of California, Riverside, and currently is enrolled in a doctoral program in management through California Pacific University. Dr. Cynthia Shields has been appointed interim associate dean of EOPS/CARE/CALWORKS. She was most recently interim director of outreach and public relations at Long Beach City College in Long Beach, Calif. Shields holds an associate’s degree in liberal arts from City College of San Francisco, a bachelor of science in organizational behavior and human relations from the University of San Francisco, a master of public administration degree in administrative organization and management from Golden Gate University, a master of science in educational counseling from National University, and a doctor of education degree in educational leadership, a joint doctoral program of California State University, Fresno and University of California, Davis. Temma Kadhim al-Mukhtar has been appointed associate dean of health professions programs. She was previously a professor and director of health professions programs for San Diego Mesa College. Before moving to the United States, she was a private-practice physician and professor at Al-Mustansirya University’s College of Medicine in Baghad, Iraq. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees, both from the department of pathology-cytogenetics at Al-Mustansiyra University. Cuyamaca College Dr. Joseph Marron has been appointed vice president of student development and services. He was previously the systemwide director for educational leadership at Alliant International University’s Graduate School of Education in San Francisco. He earned a bachelor of science in health, physical education and recreation from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania, a master of education in administration and supervision from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa., and a doctorate in higher education administration from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Henri Migala has been appointed executive dean of institutional advancement. He most recently served as director of health programs for the International Relief Teams organization in San Diego, Calif. He is a volunteer clinical faculty member for UCSD School of Medicine, and a faculty lecturer at San Diego State University’s School of Public Health. He earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies and a master’s in anthropology/sociology, both from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a master’s in public health from the University of North Texas. District office Robert H. Hertel has been appointed interim associate vice chancellor of academic, student, research, and planning services for the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District. He was previously academic program manager for Chapman University in San Diego, where he remains an adjunct instructor for the organizational leadership studies program. Hertel is also an adjunct instructor in business communications and human relations at Mesa College in San Diego. He earned an associate of arts degree in supervision from Palomar College, a bachelor of arts in management from University of Phoenix, and a master of science in human resource management from Chapman University. Grossmont College is at 8800 Grossmont College Drive in El Cajon. Cuyamaca College is at 900 Rancho San Diego Parkway in Rancho San Diego.
